Jacob's Story

Katy

Life is not all bad

"As Max Bygraves said, "I wanna tell you a little story". Last year my son Jacob developed a lump on his face. It seemed sensible to inform the doctor. The lump grew, so we began countless visits to the Eastbourne D.G.H for investigations.

To start with things were not too bad, but then the skies darkened and by the beginning of 2008 we knew Jacob had a ’non hodgkinson’s Lymphoma’ (a mild form of cancer). More visits to hospital, but this time it was to London for tests and the start of chemotherapy treatment. Part of the treatment is a visit by a nurse from Eastbourne’s D.G.H to check his ’blood counts’ prior to ’chemo’ in London.

On her last visit, and being aware that Jacobs 16th Birthday was coming up, Louise said she knew of a small charity who gave presents to cancer children. I was put in touch with them and explained that he was just waiting for his 16th Birthday so he could get a motor bike, and after talking to them suggested that some help towards his insurance would be helpful. The next day, which was Jacob’s birthday, I arrived home to find the lane blocked by a car and a van with T.P.S. Motorcycles (01323 488388) down the side. My daughter came running up to me saying, "Dad they have just bought Jake a new motor bike!"

That was an article written by Jake’s Dad after we granted his birthday wish!!

It was an amazing wish to grant, especially at a time when Jake was going through some horrible treatment. Our mad idea of taking Jake a couple of bikes and asking him to choose one could not have happened without the help of the guys at T.P.S. Motorcycles. They loaded the bikes in their van and travelled up to Uckfield with me to grant the wish. Many thanks too go to the customers and staff of the Junction Tavern in Polegate, who paid for the bike with proceeds from their panto.
