In June 2008 our youngest of 3 daughters was diagnosed as having a very rare cancer called Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans, DFSP for short. This turned our lives upside down.

The diagnoses was made after Sophie went into hospital for an operation to remove what doctors thought was a cyst on the top of her foot. When the correct diagnoses was made Sophie had to go through another operation, she was so brave and only 5 years old.

Recovery seemed slow for Sophie as she was bored of not being able to do her normal day to day things, like going outside to play on her bike. Just over a year on and she is living life to the full. Our journey with cancer will not be over until Sophie has been free from it for 5 years, so we live from one check up to another.

The hardest part of this journey was the feeling like you are the only people suffering from this. I am amazed that just over a year ago this group was born and it has developed into a great little support group, no longer are we suffering alone. Each and every story is different on here but we can gain strength from one another to beat this rare cancer.
